After dropping Game 1 of their first-round series against the heavily favored Vegas Golden Knights, the Minnesota Wild drew even with an impressive 5-2 victory Tuesday in Game 2. Now our Golden Knights vs. Wild prediction expects improved performances from Jack Eichel and Vegas’ other top players.

The series shifts to Minnesota, where the Wild still find themselves as +120 underdogs for tonight’s tilt at Xcel Energy Center (9 p.m. ET, TBS, truTV, and Sportsnet360). We're making our NHL picks for the key clash, including player prop bets and a same-game parlay.

📰 Golden Knights vs. Wild Game 3 preview

A great way to motivate professional hockey players is to question their compete level, and that’s the tactic Vegas Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy has turned to ahead of Game 3.

Cassidy was openly critical of his team for not being hungry enough in Game 2, when the Golden Knights found themselves in an early 4-0 hole before eventually losing 5-2. He’s also challenged his top line of Mark Stone, Jack Eichel, and Ivan Barbashev — a unit that has yet to collect a single point this series — to match the output of Minnesota’s Kirill Kaprizov and Matt Boldy (four goals combined).

Vegas also holds a strong track record of tightening up defensively after defeats, especially on the road. The Golden Knights have allowed just 12 goals in their last seven away from home following a loss, and the Under is 13-1-1 in Vegas’ previous 15 outings during that situation dating back to October.

Look for a much stronger effort from the Knights’ top forwards, and for Vegas to tighten the screws even more on a Wild team that's mustered just 37 shots on net through the first two games of this series.

🚨Jack Eichel Over 2.5 shots ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

After setting a franchise record with 94 points during the regular season, Eichel has yet to make his presence felt in this series. He won't stay down much longer. Combine that with his head coach calling him out, and I'm eager to back Eichel tonight.

The American sniper thrived during his two previous visits to Minnesota this season, potting a hat trick in March and notching a pair of assists in December. Eichel’s anytime goal odds of +190 feel a bit short for a player who scored just once since the end of March. But I see value in DraftKings’ -120 price on Eichel Over 2.5 shots in a step-up spot.

🚨 Joel Eriksson Ek Over 0.5 goals ⭐⭐⭐

Matt Boldy and Kirill Kaprizov have scored or assisted each other on five of the Wild’s seven goals in this series. Now it’s linemate Joel Eriksson Ek’s turn to get on the fun after going pointless in the first two contests.

The Wild’s first-line center has certainly been generating his share of looks, collecting seven shots on net during the first two games in Vegas. He and his linemates were given more than 17 minutes of 5-on-5 ice time in the series opener — nearly twice as much as any other Minnesota line — and head coach John Hynes should lean on them heavily again tonight.

The best available odds on an Eriksson Ek anytime goal are bet365’s +240 price. However, the +220 at BetMGM and FanDuel still gives you a chance at a $22 return on a $10 wager.

🚨 Brett Howden Over 0.5 goals ⭐

If you’re looking for a dark horse to score tonight for Vegas, Brett Howden at +650 odds certainly fits the bill. Although he’s skating on the Golden Knights’ fourth line, Howden produced a career-high 23 goals during the regular season and already added two more in this series, both in Game 1.

Howden was also given time on the Knights’ top line near the end of the season, so Cassidy could consider giving the 27-year-old some additional opportunities if the first line continues to sputter.
